I was going to do a blog on this song a few months ago but after listening to it a few times I really didn’t know what to write. But after looking at some context of this song and the artist singing this song all the material I needed just starting flooding to me. I have so much to say with a song like this and I’m probably not going to say everything I want to say but I’ll do it as much justice as I possibly can.

The pain and the solace I feel from  hearing such an incredible piece of art such as this is crazy. I couldn’t imagine the pain and the loneliness a man such as Willie Johnson would would have felt living as a blind black man in the early 1900’s. If you know the history of America you would be aware that it would only have been in 1863 that black people were no longer considered to be slaves but still experiencing incredible prejudice and difficulty nonetheless.

In modern society being blind or any other form of disability is very difficult. Things in society are still not fully in place to help protect and serve the needs of this community of people. Let alone back in the early 1900’s!

In my journey with my brand I sometimes feel like this is a lonely journey. I don’t know many entrepreneurs that are my age I can call and identify with. Most I know are very arrogant tbh. However I feel, can never compare to how Willie Johnson must have felt. A blind,  black man in the early 1900’s would have been almost a double disadvantage in life. There would have been literally no one in society that would be able to identify with what he goes through. But he pours out the pain and loneliness he experiences in this song.

This song puts my life in perspective and I hope it makes you wonder too. Great choice from Nicole! Thank You.
