Do you just love hearing someone give a speech or seeing someone speak on TV and they are speaking your exact point of view. And you start screaming PREAAAACCH!! PREEAAAAACHH!!
That’s what I feel like this choice does for a lot of people that don’t have a voice.
Everyone knows Black Panther came out like a month ago. And its like one of the highest grossing films in box office history I think. Everyone talks about its good to have black representation in a film and I agree, it is. But the funny thing is that I personally feel like A Black Panther has just been a matter of when not if. With leading TV’s and Movies like Empire, Power, Queen of the South, Get Out and Moonlight, that have multi-cultural casts this is representation, this shows hope.
I’m currently reading a book called Eviction by Matthew Desmond where he talks about the realities of renting and eviction in America. This book has given me an insight into the vicious cycle of the realities of being poor and living in America. Making Nathan’s choice all the more poignant to me because a lot of people in the book are going through exactly what the song is talking about.
As the owner of RMD I will continue to try to provide hope and representation the best way I know how, the way Nas and Quan have done in this song. Thanks for your choice Nathan and great meeting you at Snobcon!
