I sometimes here people say they hate religion and it seems too rigid and their not interested in being held down by rules. And : ” Why do religions take money from their congregations? What is all that about?”
The thing I’ve seen- at least from my life- is that in my really really shit situations do you know what I needed more than anything else? Not money because money wouldn’t have helped in the really dire situations- but instead hope.
Hope that things will get better, hope that knowing someone else out there in the world has been through what I’ve been through and made it out; hope that this isn’t the end of the road and brighter days are around the corner. That’s what I believe faith and religions try to represent; of course not all establishments are genuine but that’s what their core is- hope.
And a strand of hope is a super-powerful thing. Some people may read this and be thinking: “Noooo your wrong! You know what would be a really powerful thing for my situation? A million pounds deposited into my bank account!!”
That would be nice for the odd-dire-situation. Maybe your landlord is going to kick you out and a £1m deposit will do quite nicely. But with more money, you’ll have new problems. You’ll have new friends you can’t trust and if you don’t manage it well what happens when the money is finished? And in what world have you seen £1m just deposited to anyone on the off-chance? Like really?
I know I might be going off on a tangent here but what I’m trying to say is, hope is what is really needed. With hope there is no opposition you cannot overcome.
