I was looking through my phone the other day and I was searching for something- I can’t remember exactly what it was now- like my car insurance details. And I saw this SOTW choice Rhea gave ages ago and I just hadn’t got around to it, so I thought I’d do a blog on it now.
I remember growing up as a teenager you can be soo stupid. Getting into arguments with family and friends over really petty stuff saying that you hate them and I used to genuinely hate my life at one point and tbh there was nothing to hate. I had a roof over my head, food was always there and I could buy nice clothes if I saved up. When I started travelling, going to different parts of the world meeting people from all walks of life and seeing what some people go through on a daily basis really changed my mindset.
One of the most impactful films I’ve ever watched is Incendies which is loosely based on the life of activist Souha Bechara. After watching that film I felt ashamed for complaining about anything I had going on in my life. And the most saddening thing about her story is that there are people all across the world right now that are going through incredibly degrading and on the surface seemingly impossible situations to get out of.
That’s why choices like this from Rhea are beautiful. They represent the few things that can help one climb out of shit situations-hope.
You might say/ think hope doesn’t pay the bills! Hope doesn’t pay the rent! You’re full of crap bro!!
Well if you’ve got no money to pay the rent / or bills a negative attitude won’t help you either, it’ll hinder you. Hope, a positive attitude amongst many other things will help you progress. That’s what we try to represent, that’s what Kirk Franklin here is representing and that’s what people in the limelight should be attempting to do.
If you’ve got a couple of of hours to kill I super highly recommend you watch Incendies. Have a good week family x
