Danny G.

I saw a clip of Peter Dinklage talking about  how he became an actor. He had always harboured ambitions of becoming an actor ever since he was young. When he left college he would get a few gigs here and there and he really enjoyed it, but he never really pursued it wholeheartedly. He then started working in the telecommunications industry but he hated it and knew it wasn’t his future career. So after years of working there he left and decided to fully pursue an acting career, telling himself the only way he is going to make money now is through acting gigs. He then got one small role that led to a bigger role and a bigger role and led to the actor that it is today.

Why do I tell this story? Simply because it is very easy to see Peter Dinklage as a success now with Game of Thrones and think that he has always been successful and he has always been doing well. But the reality is that to be successful in the creative sector, doesn’t just require creativity it also requires a shit ton of courage and bravery.

To get a job you just need some experience in the sector in question or to enroll in a university you need the appropriate qualifications or grades. To create a successful acting career or create a successful music career there is nothing like that. It is just plain continually putting yourself out there until you get recognised and somebody gives you the opportunity. This is why I love this choice. The simple love for music is what keeps people doing something even if it is not generating income. And I feel as thought the artist can replace music with painting, vlogging, coaching, anything else and it will have the same poignancy.

And it goes back to the age old saying: ” The person willing to do more than they are paid to do,  will eventually be paid  more than they actually do.”

Thank you Danny for your choice!!!!!!!! 🙂
